Mission Impossible Movie 1996

Mission: Impossible was the first movie in the series in which the fourth movie is currently being post-produced. Mission Impossible movie was released in 1996, years after kid Tom Cruise watched the Mission: Impossible series on TV and not long after Paramount Pictures has purchased the rights of the classic television series. Besides Tom Cruise, who had inaugurated his production company in the Mission Impossible film and knew he wanted to play the leading role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt, several directors, screenwriters and co-stars were replaced until the movie was finally produced.

Mission: Impossible was planned to be directed by Sydney Pollack, but was finally decided, by the movie star and co-producer to replace him for Brian De Palma, who is known for mobster movies such as “Scarface”, “Wise Guys” and “The Untouchables”. The screenplay was written by David Koepp and Robert Towne, while Steven Zallian was credited for his contribution to the story and Bruce Geller, the original TV series screenwriter received a writing credit as well. The final Mission Impossible movie cast features Emmanuelle Béart, Jean Reno, Vanessa Redgrave and Vince Rhames who would later appear in all Mission Impossible movies including the upcoming Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.

Mission: Impossible movie borrowed several elements and lines from the original TV series: the tape, the mission, the theme music (that earned a new version by U2 members) and the veteran and ready for action IMF team leader Jim Phelps, played by John Voight in the movie and by Peter Graves during most of TV series seasons. Besides these, the Mission Impossible movie took a different direction from the 1970s spy television series to an action-thriller filled with special effects and dangerous stunts, most of them performed by Tom Cruise himself. The cast members of the TV series did not like the new direction taken in Mission Impossible movie. Anyway, after the franchise second installment, no one remembered to ask them.

Mission Impossible Movie Plot

The Impossible Mission Force, headed by our acquaintance Jim Phelps, and from now recognized as a branch of the CIA¸ is sent to Prague. Officially, the purpose of the mission was to stop the selling of a classified document; In fact, it meant to discover the mole amongst the IMF agents. So, when the mission goes wrong and all the agents, all but Ethan Hunt, find their ends, Hunt is being blamed for betraying the organization and killing his colleagues. At this point, as Ethan Hunt runs for his life and his eligibility, the Mission Impossible movie begins.
