Mission Impossible Composer Lifetime Achievement Award

Mission Impossible movies composer Michael Giacchino will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12^th annual Big Bear Lake International Film Festival on September 15-18. Giacchino has also won an Academy Award in 2010, for “The Best Achievement in Music written for a Motion Picture”, for composing the score of  the animation movie “Up”, an winning that made him the first video game composer to win an Oscar.

Michael Giacchino has composed the original score of the previous Mission Impossible III and the upcoming Mission Impossible IV – Ghost Protocol (not to be confused with the famous Mission Impossible theme that was composed by Lalo Schifrin). Giacchino (pronounced: jee-ah-kee-no) has an ongoing collaboration with J.J. Abrams, MI3 director and MI4 producer; he has composed many of Abrams movies and television projects including “Super 8”, “Lost” and “Fringe”.  Giacchino also collaborated with Brad Bird, Mission Impossible IV director, in two of his acclaimed animation features,” The Incredibles “ and “Ratatouille”. They were successful collaboration if the three of them meet again in the new Mission Impossible Movie.

“We chose Michael Giacchino as the Festival’s first-ever recipient of this award for his ability as a composer to underscore the feeling of a scene and capture the spirit of an entire film — a talent that has already earned him many accolades,” Big Bear film festival board member Vanessa Finney had reasoned their choosing. In addition to Michael Giacchino, John Bailey will also be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work as a director of photography in many films.
