It has been five years since the last Mission Impossible movie, simply called Mission: Impossible III or MI3; so, while waiting for  Mission Impossible 4 movie release, let’s recall the last Mission Impossible movie to date. Starting with the trailer:

Some Facts about MI3

Mission Impossible 3 was released in the US on 5/5/2006, six years after Mission Impossible 2 release, so it was the first Mission Impossible production after September 11.

The movie was directed by J.J. Abrams, whose directing experience included only TV series (Felicity, Lost, Alias). The directing job was offered to him by Tom Cruise himself, after David Fincher and Joe Carnnahan had turned down the project.

J.J. Abrams, by the way, produces the fourth Mission Impossible film, Ghost Protocol, and he had already announced in several occasions that the new movie, directed by Brad Bird and not by himself, is going to be the best ever Mission Impossible movie…

Mission Impossible 3 also introduced Simon Pegg as the IMF computer genius Benji Dunn, a part he is playing again at the upcoming Mission Impossible 4 too. Simon Pegg is mostly known for his role in  Shaun of the Dead, a British romantic zombie comedy, he co-wrote with the movie director Edgar Wright.

Other cast members include Philip Seymour Hoffman, as the film’s meanest villain, arms dealer Owen Davian; Michelle Monaghan as Ethan Hunt’s girlfriend, who shares a close resemblance to Tom Cruise real life partner, Katie Holmes, and Kerri Russel, who you might recognize as Felicity, as Hunt’s successor at the IMF team.

Warning: might include some spoilers

In Mission Impossible III, Ethan Hunt is a retired IMF agent who trains a new generation of agents while living the quiet country life with his girlfriend Julia, who knows nothing about his past impossible missions. Hunt’s domestic bliss is disturbed when a fellow agent asks him to save one of his own trainees who got caught in a mission after infamous dealer Owen Davian. Hunt and his team find the abducted IMF agent at a Berlin warehouse; they fail to save her life but they manage to rescue two laptops that contain information on Davian’s plans, which include getting something called a “Rabbit’s foot” on the Vatican.  Although Davian is being caught by the team with the help of fake exploding car, the mission does not end here. And when Davian succeeds to escape the IMF team, and to put his hands on Julia, now Ethan’s wife, and to execute his threats to kill her in front of his eyes, Ethan Hunt travels forth to China, were the mysterious rabbit’s foot is expected to be found.

Eventually, Ethan comes back in time to rescue Julia, who kills Davian with Ethan guidance, but the identity of the rabbit’s foot is not really clarified. Mission Impossible 3 movie ends with a question mark about Ethan’s future at the Impossible Missions Force. Though asked to accept another mission, Ethan Hunt walks away with Julia, who is now familiar with his secret past.
